FAQ

What is the purpose of Dads On Duty? In short, to give every dad an easy, scheduled opportunity to join his children in the classroom. Most dads find that the time is as rewarding for themselves as it is for the children.

What do dads do in the classroom? Our signature program is aiding your child and his/her classmates in the school’s computer lab. Sessions last less than an hour once a week; you can sign up for as many or as few sessions as you like.

Where do I get a schedule? You can download a 2008 lab schedule for all classes under the LAB SCHEDULES tab to the left.

What are the duties/expectations while in the classroom? Be assured: A high level of computer proficiency is not necessary. Parents help the students by answering simple questions, by helping to keep the class on track and by affirming a child’s progress and providing encouragement.

What is the time commitment? The time you spend can be as much or as little as you choose. Computer lab sessions last less than an hour, and students attend lab once every six days. You can sign up for any number of sessions.

Are there any non-computer classroom volunteer opportunities? Of course! At this time, Dads on Duty doesn’t have any structured programs, but we'd be happy to pass along your interest to your child's teacher, or you can contact them yourself.

Can only dads join Dads on Duty? Not at all. The program was founded to give fathers an easy way to get involved in the classroom, but we certainly encourage all parents – or grandparents or other guardians! – to sign up.

I can't make it to the school during school hours. Any way I can help? You bet! Dads On Duty volunteers are encouraged to volunteer at PTO-sponsored events, such as the Fall Festival and Evening of the Arts. In addition, Dads on Duty will need a number of volunteers as we put on a Father-Son Kickball Spectacular in February. If you are interested in helping with that particular event, please contact us right away!
